Soles of the Feet: Mindfulness for Emotion Regulation and Self-Awareness (Ages 10-17)

Soles of the Feet is a mindfulness-based group program designed for kids and teens with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who need support  handling difficult or overwhelming emotions. This program teaches  simple, evidence-based grounding techniques that helps participants with managing emotions and responding more effectively to challenging and upsetting emotional situations. Mindfulness supports better emotional regulation, control of attention, and self-awareness.

What You’ll Learn:

  • A calming strategy that focuses attention on the soles of the feet when experiencing big emotions
  • Tools to stay present and feel more in control
  • Ways to build self-awareness and control of attention
  • Skills to promote emotional well-being and improve disruptive behaviour

Who Can Join:

Kids and teens ages 10–17 who:

  • Can participate in a 60-minute group lessons without one-on-one support
  • Can have back-and-forth conversations
  • Have a diagnosis of ASD  or struggle with emotional regulation

Note: This program is a good next step after Facing Your Fears (FYF), though participation in FYF is not required.

Getting Started:

A brief intake meeting will be required before the program starts.

Good to Know:

Sessions are led by a clinical team which includes a Registered Psychotherapist and  Registered Behaviour Analysts (RBAs).

Funding may be available through the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) or extended health benefits.
