Executive Functioning Program for Children & Teens

Helping children and teens develop practical skills for learning, organization, self-regulation, and everyday independence.

Executive functioning services for children and teens at Launch Behavioural Health

Executive functioning skills are the brain-based abilities that help us learn, complete tasks, manage emotions, solve problems, and organize ourselves from day to day.

Three foundational processes are especially important: working memory, which helps us hold and use information; impulse and emotional control, which help us manage reactions and behaviour; and cognitive flexibility, which helps us adjust plans, shift our thinking, and solve problems.

These foundational skills support other executive functioning abilities such as starting tasks, sustaining attention, organization, planning, time management, and self-monitoring.

Our Executive Functioning program uses evidence-based strategies from Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) to help children and teens build practical skills and greater confidence at home, at school, and in the community. Parent coaching helps families reinforce strategies outside of sessions.

Executive functioning services can focus on:

  • Emotional regulation
  • Response inhibition and impulse control
  • Cognitive flexibility and problem solving
  • Organization
  • Planning and prioritizing
  • Time management
  • Working memory
  • Task initiation and managing procrastination
  • Attention and staying focused
  • Self-monitoring
Skills for everyday life. Executive functioning challenges can show up in many different ways. From difficulty getting ready for school to forgetting assignments, becoming overwhelmed by changes in plans, or struggling to begin tasks. Programming is individualized around the child's or teen's specific strengths, needs, and everyday routines.
